The Art of the Table

Welcome to Bright and Beautiful, Flowers & Table Decor.

Flowers, entertaining, food and travel are my passion.  Actually, that should read food, flowers, food, entertaining, food, food, food, travel and food are my passions.  A lot of emphasis needs to be placed on the food part, but I am not going to go into too much detail regarding my passion, or maybe it would be better described as obsession.  Suffice to say food rules my life!  All my really good memories are based on family occasions filled with wonderful food and holidays filled with new, exciting flavours and tastes.  By now you are already asking yourself the question "I thought this was going to be about flowers and decor?" and, yes, you would be correct.  To a very large extent my passions go hand in hand, as no occasion, no matter how sumptious the food is, would be completed without being accompanied by flowers, candles and beautiful table decorations.  The attention to the detail of the placement of every piece of cutlery, crockery, glass and linen all enhance the dining experience.

Several books have been written on The Art of the Table and these cover and guide the reader to table settings, table manners, decorating and tableware.  Although I enjoy being seated at a beautifully executed traditional dining table (it makes me feel so decadent and so spoilt), I also adore creating fantasy settings by mixing and matching, cutlery, crockery and glassware and including unusual and even quirky elements.  At the end of the day rules are meant to be broken and, no matter what the ultimate vision one should be able to look at the end result and still be able to describe it as being Stylish.  Food should match the decor and vice versa.  Think through your occasion, think through the vision you're trying to create and think through your guest list before deciding on the theme or look you are hoping to achieve.  Once you have made your decision you now need to see how you are going to execute, whilst attending to each and every detail from beginning to end.  We will have fun talking about the various elements that simply just cannot be overlooked if you are to host a successful event.
