MISHKA AND ZAHIR :  ATLANTIC IMBIZO

The magical day (see my blog posts A Countdown to a Wedding 1-5) has now come and gone. Congratulations to Zahir and Mishka who were married on 08th December 2013, a hot, sunny, blue skied Cape Town day.

It is always a wonderful feeling seeing months and months of planning coming together and, at the end of the day, usually exhausted, when we step back and see the overall effect it is the aphrodisiac that keeps wedding planners and florists coming back for more. No wedding or functions is without its little glitches.

The evening reception was held at the Atlantic Imbizo Clock Tower, Waterfront. It is situated on the top floor and has a panoramic view. Due to the size of the wedding we had to add a Bedouin tent to the outside area for additional space.

Mishka and her mother had a definite idea of what they wanted and what they envisioned for the special day. Blush pink together with mint and pretty!! Mishka particularly wanted the inclusion of a candy table. This was to be more a feature to compliment the decor. Her Dad, Rushdie, made the most fabulous cake. I loved the simplicity of it and the size of the cake made the table look incredible.

We decided to use two complimentary styles for the tables. We sourced incredible tablecloths from Uber Chic. On the elaborate tablecloth we used large glass vases in the centre filled with hydrangea, lisianthus, roses, larkspur and latifolia. These were flanked by glass vases filled with the same flowers. On the other tables we used a glass candelabra and these were flanked by boxes which were painted white and embellished with fabric roses made by Kathleen Barry. Kathleen Barry made the most stunning hair piece for the bride. Wow! The flower girls and bridesmaids wore ombre mint dresses and Kathleen was responsible for the hair accessories.

I had the most amazing team of people to help pull everything together. There were approximately 85 flower arrangements which Jose and Tracy from Fabulous Flowers assisted with. Working in advance I had folded white serviettes into roses for the less elaborate tablecloths and the blush pink serviettes on the other tables really helped to pull the colours together.

My very willing team doing delivery/collection excelled themselves. You guys really rock! It was not ideal having to walk every item up a flight of stairs. It was even less ideal for strike down when your legs are tired. The girls who help with set up (you know who you are) are always enthusiastic and eager to get everything just right (the way I like it) and Wesley and his team who helped with strike down I just cannot tell you how much I appreciated you. Special mention to Gabi who managed to get the “candy” table looking the way Mishka wanted it. Not overcrowded with selected sweets and candies complimenting the cake.

Our guests were scrambling for more of the divine treats. Coconut Ice hearts made by Yvette Kleyn, Funky Treats, Toffees by Sweet Temptation and the most beautiful cake pops by Bev, Popkins. Pink meringues, marshmallows, rock candy www.chicsugar.co.za, lollipops www.chicsugar.co.za and mini cupcakes finished it all off.

All in all a very beautiful and successful day. Phew!
